Third Saturday of each month. Juried outdoor fine art and craft festival with 160 artists. Food vendors, entertainment - live music. On the banks of the Red River. sponsored by North Valley Arts Council (NoVAC) Greater Grand Forks Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) The North Valley Arts Council and the Greater Grand Forks Convention and Visitors Bureau proudly present the third Art and Wine Walk season. Art & Wine Walks will take place in Downtown Grand Forks and East Grand Forks businesses on the third Saturday of each month, from 1pm-5pm, May - October. During each event, downtown businesses will exhibit the work of local and regional artists and some businesses will offer wine tastings. Each guest will pay a $10 fee for a map (and a wristband if over 21) to visit participating businesses and view work by exhibiting artists. At each business, guests will have their map stamped, and at select businesses they will have the opportunity to sample wine if over the age of 21. Guests will also be able to view and purchase artwork. The goals of this event are to bring people downtown to see the many businesses in the downtown area, and to become familiar with local artists and their work. Each artist who wishes to participate in the Art & Wine Walk can sign up for one or more event dates. We encourage artists to participate in at least three events. There is a one-time fee of $50 for participation. If an artist is a member of NoVAC or the GGFCVB, this fee will be waived. Membership information can be found at www.novac.org or www.visitgrandforks.com, respectively. We ask that participating artists be present at the events in which they are exhibiting.

A special part of Pickwick history preserved, the Pickwick Mill's waterwheel whirs in the background as water cascades below. The sounds are a reminder of Pickwick Mill's special place in history - one that could've been forgotten. All six floors of the 151-year-old mill have a purpose. Tour guide and retired farmer Vic Gardner can tell you about each one. Pickwick Mill, named after Charles Dickens' book "The Pickwick Papers," was established in 1854. The mill building was completed in 1858. In 1980, a flood destroyed the dam and spillway, also causing extensive water damage. The mill's owners considered demolishing it, but the people of Pickwick and others interested in preservation formed Pickwick Mill Incorporated and bought the building in 1982. "It's a very peaceful, serene setting." In its prime, the mill produced more than 100 barrels of flour a day. An exhibit at the mill shows how wheat was transformed into bran, middlings, farina, clear flour and eventually patent flour. Grinding stones were used until the turn of the century when they were replaced by roller mills, all of which can be seen at the mill. "It's one of a kind!" The mill ground flour until the 1920s and livestock feed until 1978.
